“like a crashing wave on a summer day”
I’ve long adored these steely, bright, refreshing wines. Verdicchio is a grape that more people should know about, and Colle Stefano makes one of the best examples of it.
This is like drinking Chablis via the Adriatic Sea: this wine leads with notes of lemon pith, almond skin, fresh fennel and finishes like a crashing wave on a summer day. Verdicchio shows its versatility on the palate with abundant texture and brisk acidity. It has a long, complete finish and like all wines that Crunchy Red Fruit finds compelling, it lets you travel in the glass.

We’ve partnered with Megan Barone of Mixtape Pasta to both choose wines for this box and to craft recipes to pair with them.

Pistachio Pesto
The Verdicchio is so electric and bright that the nutty richness of this pesto rounds out the acid without being too rich. Perfect tossed with your favorite pasta, or as a spread on a simple tuna (in olive oil, please) sandwich with arugula, pickled onions and capers.
Music: “Pretty Prize” by Daniele Luppi, Parquet Courts, and Karen O
I think you’ll get it once you hear it. This wine’s angular, jangly tang and briskness go well with the upbeat and ever-so-slightly dissonant rhythmic bounce of this song.
