Viniculture: Organic, no herbicides, no treatments with chemical and/or synthetic fertilizers
Winemaking: 15 days of maceration with the skins, then drawn off and kept at room temperature, the fermentation develops naturally without inoculation of wine yeast. Aging in stainless steel
“sour cherry, dried herbs”
This was the wine that inspired us to do a volcanic release. I guess you could call it an eruption :-/ It’s so pretty and lifted that I had a hard time believing it was grown in the hot Sicilian mountains. But Frappato has that effect. It’s like southern Italian Pinot Noir–red fruited and earthy.
A touch of Nero d’Avola gives weighty, ripe fruit to the profile here. But the overall effect of this wine is one of elegance and restraint. I love this wine with a slight chill on it, or
With Dario Serrentino at the helm, Mortellito makes pure, chemical-free wines that tell the story of the windswept hills of the Noto region in southwestern Sicily. This Cala Nìuru comes on strong with sour cherry, dried herbs and a strong, persistent smoky volcanic mineral finish. I love this wine with any pizza or lighter, fresher pasta dishes.
